Climate TransAct goals are to reduce the impact of freight transport on the environment, and to help transport service providers (carriers) and transport users (shippers) see the rewards to their business.
Climate TransAct has been developing a programme to promote green procurement of
transport services and of fuel saving and/or emission reducing technologies as part
of a comprehensive voluntary incentive based market transformation program to reduce
energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants in freight transport.

TransAct is based on an ongoing initiative that started in the beginning of 2009

on the very successful US Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay programme, an
ongoing evaluation process by a workgroup of leading companies in Europe and on existing
sustainable freight transport programmes and tools developed by public authorities
and industry associations in Europe.
Climate TransAct will level the playing field

for participating shippers and transport companies demonstrating advanced practices
and achieving superior levels of environmental performance.

Climate TransAct will foster closer carrier and shipper relationships. The Climate TransAct staff will provide company specific guidance to help carriers and shippers to evaluate and understand their environmental performance and opportunities for improvement.
Climate TransAct will be a European platform for the validation, sharing and promotion of freight efficiency strategies and technologies leading to an accelerated take up of clean transportation and logistics technologies by the industry.
